Why crumbs?

It's a metaphor. On Facebook, a friend of mine's status was:
"How do you dig half a hole?".
You can't. That's the whole point.

When you eat a cookie, you are sure to leave a few crumbs behind (that is, unless you eat the whole cookie in one shot). The point is, a crumb can break down into infinite pieces- smaller and smaller- and undetectable to the human eye. Okay great, that's just a cookie... Or is it?

Every decision you make shapes the rest of your life. Each choice underlies tons of other possibilities. I'm not just referring to huge decisions, like getting married. I'm talking about the small ones.

For example, you're able to catch an earlier flight home from a summer vacation. On the way home, there's a lot of traffic. You explain a short-cut to the taxi driver. During the short-cut, you spot a stray dog; a really skinny one. You decide to take the dog home and bring him to a local vet the next day. The local vet tells you he is very old and is highly unlikely to be adopted if brought to the SPCA. You decide to keep the dog. While walking the dog one day, you encounter another dog walker. You walk together often and end up building a great friendship over time.

Let's back up for a second. None of this would have happened if you didn't catch an earlier flight home. It was a blessing in disguise. You made a decision without having any clue of its repercussions. You gained a close friend and a sweet companion who fills your life with laughter and doggie-kissies.

This can be a scary thought.
We aren't always aware and never fully can be of the repercussions of our actions.

Is it just a coincidence that everything ends up working itself in the end?
